Paris Texas Smokehouse boasts large plates and generous portions. It's a busy and popular spot that we found to be good value for money.
We ate here at the start of the Christmas season and were suitably impressed. A repeat visit is definitely on the cards!
Paris Texas Bar and Smokehouse, a barbecue Gastropub situated right in the heart of Kilkenny City, is home to an authentic wood smoking oven and grill.
It offers traditional American South West favourites with a New Orleans twist.
The Gastropub is deceptively spacious once you step in off the street, and the menu offered is extensive and reasonably priced - especially for a city centre location
For lighter appetites, there is a selection of sandwiches and wraps available until 5pm daily. All are served with either soup, fries or salad.
Moving onto the full menu selection, there is a comprehensive choice of starters such as Texas Chilli, Buffalo Wings and the rather unusual Cod and Smoked Bacon Spring Roll to whet your appetite.
However, it is the substantial choice of mains that should really get your mouth watering.
Take your pick from a choice of steaks, burgers, fried chicken and Mexican specialities. And for those serious carnivores out there, the Mixed BBQ Platter, which is a house favourite, is highly recommended.
Generous BBQ platters
On our visit, our table’s order consisted of the 9oz Sirloin Steak, Crispy Fried Chicken and two Mixed BBQ Platters.
The platters comprised of pulled pork, ½ rack ribs, bbq wings and brisket. Accompanying all this were some corn on the cob, sweet potato, smokey and regular fries and a mac and cheese.
The portion sizes were very generous, and all the meals were extremely tasty. The service provided was polite and efficient.
Whilst Paris Texas Smokehouse would not be classed as low cost dining, it does offer great value in terms of portion sizes, food quality and surroundings.
So whether you are looking for a quick lunchtime pitstop in the midst of a shopping expedition, or an evening of fulfilling food in the company of friends, Paris Texas Bar and Restaurant is a great option in the vibrant city of Kilkenny.
