Caribbean Beach Resort with the Disney Skyliner overhead

Why Caribbean Beach is a favourite for Disney World guests

4 min read

When it comes to picking the perfect resort for your Disney World trip, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is likely to be on the shortlist for many guests.

It’s a high-capacity resort, with comfortable accommodation, a good blend of amenities, an since the opening of the Skyliner ‘gondola’ cable-car network in 2019, elevated access to two of Disney World’s top theme parks.

Nevertheless, it is not for everyone. So, is it the right fit for your stay?

Here, we take a look at the pros and cons of this resort, who it appeals to, and what makes it such a popular choice.

What guests love about Caribbean Beach Resort

One of the biggest selling points of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is its family-focussed amenities.

With a fun pirate-themed pool, convenient dining options, and the Disney Skyliner offering direct access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, it’s a popular option for families.

Another pro is the resort’s Caribbean-inspired vibe - lush landscaping, colourful buildings, and waterfront views, the resort feels like a mini tropical vacation within your Disney trip.

Whether you’re strolling along Barefoot Bay or relaxing at one of the five leisure pools, there’s plenty of space to unwind.

For guests who want easy access to the parks, the Skyliner gondola system is a major highlight.

Being the hub of this transportation system makes it quick and easy to get to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, home to Toy Story Land and Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. This feature is ideal for guests who plan to visit these parks frequently, especially if you’re hoping to take midday breaks back at the resort.

Is Caribbean Beach too spread-out?

While Caribbean Beach has plenty going for it, there are a few drawbacks to consider. One of the main complaints is the resort’s size. With six villages spread across the property, some rooms can be a long walk from the main amenities at Old Port Royale.

This can be inconvenient, especially if you’re travelling with people with mobility concerns, or young children or, you simply want to be close to the dining, the pool and the transport all at once.

The resort also has limited dining options compared to other more expensive Disney resorts.

On-site restaurants like Sebastian’s Bistro and Centertown Market offer tasty meals, some guests may prefer more variety without needing to travel off-property.

It's a favourite for families

Disney World’s Caribbean Beach resort is a favourite among families, thanks to its expansive grounds and laid-back atmosphere.

It is a ‘moderate’ level Disney World Resort, priced typically around $350 per night (more at peak season) and in certain aspects it punches above its weight at that price point - for instance, its Skyliner access means it has excellent transport to two of Disney World four main theme parks.

The accommodation buildings spread out across the resort’s six villages (Barbados, Martinique, Aruba, Jamaica, Trinidad North, and Trinidad South), create a distinct and relaxed tropical vibe. This, combined with the relative affordability, compared to deluxe resorts, makes it a popular choice for families who have a budget to stick to and still want to enjoy plenty of amenities.

It can also be a good option for couples who want a peaceful, and slightly more elevated Disney World experience without splurging top-dollar on a high-end ‘deluxe’ resort.

A relaxed, family-oriented vibe

The overall vibe at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is casual and family-friendly.

It’s a bustling resort, full of families with kids enjoying the pools and activities, so it’s best suited to those who don’t mind a lively atmosphere. If you’re looking for a more refined, upscale retreat, this isn’t the Disney World Resort for you.

But, if you love the idea of a tropical island feel without leaving Disney property, it’s perfect.

The Skyliner to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios

The resort’s biggest selling point is undoubtedly the Disney Skyliner, which adds premium park transportation without a deluxe price tag.

This scenic gondola cable-car system, opened in 2019, created easy access to two major Disney parks - EPCOT and Hollywood Studios - straight from the Caribbean Beach resort. It means guests travelling between these parks and resort don’t have to rely on buses. And it helps Caribbean Beach stand out compared to some of the other moderate resorts at this price point.

The Skyliner hub being located right at the resort means you can get a jump start on your day at the parks, making it especially appealing for families who want to maximize their time.

Guests booked at Caribbean Beach may benefit from doing a bit of research ahead of their trip, by studying the resort maps, and making a room request with Disney. Ask to stay in whichever village and building makes sense for your group (maybe you’ll prioritise proximity to buses, the Skyliner, to the pool, to the restaurants, or strike the right balance between them).

Drawbacks of Caribbean Beach

Caribbean Beach’s spread-out layout is a positive for some, creating a sense of space in what is a high-capacity resort, but, it is a drawback for some guests that place value on convenience or have mobility concerns.

If you’re a couple looking for a more tranquil, more adult-focused experience, you might prefer a resort like the neighbouring Riviera Resort, one of the other Disney Vacation Club resorts (like Beach Club, Yacht Club, Boardwalk) or one of the more expensive deluxe Disney World resorts.

Who is Caribbean Beach for?

Disney World’s Caribbean Beach Resort is perfect for families and couples who want a fun, relaxing stay with great access to the parks.

While it may not be the best fit for guests seeking luxury or seclusion, its family-friendly amenities and convenient transportation make it a fantastic choice for a theme park adventure.
